The Race begins with a 150 km stage: Ruunaa-Kuhmo

there’s a mandatory 12 hour break during the race

  • Award ceremonies will be held after all the teams have finished the race

There’s a minimum of 7 dogs required to participate the race; a 6 dogs minimum to continue to stages 2 & 3
there are two (2) checkpoints and a mandatory 12 hours break during the race
The musher decides the break times/intervals

Stage 1: Ruunaan Matkailu--JKuhmo 150 km
Stage 2: Kuhmo-Ruunaan Matkailu 150 km

IFSS Rules / VUL Eastpoint Open
The IFSS rules are followed, with Eastpoint Open rules. Every teams are required to aknowledge these rules. The race committee of Eastpoint Open has the rights to change the rules if necessary. In case of any changes to the rules mentioned above, there will be an announcement during the mushers meeting.

Every team has to have the mandatory LD-equipment in the sled:

  • a winter sleeping bag and a tent, or a Extreme-bag
  • 500 grams of spare food per dog. The sparefood is to be carried in the sled during the race
  • Extra clothing: jacket, pants/jumpsuit, shoes
  • 0,5 litres of alcohol burner fuel
  • Operating kettle  with container for heating minimum ½ liter of water per liter. dog
  • a snow shovel
  • a trash bag
  • a first aid kit
  • a compass
  • a mobile phone
  • an axe or a knife with a minimum of 20 cm blade
  • headlight with decent battery supplies
  • 4 pieces of dogs footwear per dog
  • a fire making kit (lighter, matches etc.)
  • a route map
  • food for the musher, 500g minimum for each stage
  • dog leashes for dogs left behind
  • a reflector in the sled

Other rules

  • Each dog has to have a microchip, and vaccinated. Dogs have to be at least 18 montsh old to participate the race.
  • The musher has to deliver two copies of a list of microchips before the mandatory mushers meeting. The list has to include dogs names, and 5 last digits of the chips.
  • The route map is given to the mushers in the mushers meeting
  • Race starts are in one minute intervals
  • Using general and public roads during the race is forbidden
  • The musher is allowed to change the sled two times during the race
  • if the sled replacement should take place in the first checkpoint, the handler will provide the sled for replacement
  • The border zone is marked in the wilderness, and further information will be provided in the mushers meeting
  • in case of aborting the race, the musher has to inform the race marshall immediately
  • if there should be a protest, the competitor has to provide a written protest within 30 minutes after the last team has finished the race
  • there is a 1000 € protest fee, and it is not refundable
  • the fee is paid in cash only
  • if a dog dies during the race
  • the dog should be put in a trash bag in the sled
  • the finishing time is marked, and the competitor announces to abort the race and then calls in the race judge and the vet
  • the judge and the vet make a report about the incident, and the dog is inspected by the vet
  • the dog is sent to EVIRA for further inspection, at the expense of the race organizer
  • Chief Judge will decide whether the race continues for the participant involved in the incident
